Mountains, rivers, valleys, forests around us has a history. Using this natural environment, humans built structures there. Maharashtra has a rich history. From Thane-Raigad district to Kolhapur and from Pune-nagar to Nagpur-Gadchiroli. Those buildings have historical as well as cultural references. The imprint of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s thoughts and actions is everywhere. What we often fail to do is to search for them and add context. That deficiency has been filled by Vikhuralya Itihas-Khuna a book written by history researcher Sadashiv Tetwilkar.

Memsaheb refers to the wives of the British rulers who ruled India for 150 years. They were given a lot of freedom compared to Indian women. Using this, they traveled a lot, observed life in India and wrote down their experiences. Most of them have been well preserved which help us understand the social history of the British rule. This attempt to do so is narrated by author Dr. Vasudha Joshi in her Memsahebche Ayushya A Different Perspective on the British Raj book.
