The ancient city of Eran in Madhya Pradesh has a rich historical and cultural heritage. Evidence of Neolithic, Kayatha and Copper Age, Harappan Civilization, Maurya, Shunga, Satavahana, Shaka, Naga, Gupta, Hun, Gurjar-Pratihara, Parmar, Chandel, Kalachuri dynasties can be found in Eran.
The city of Eran, which gained importance from the Copper Age, was a royal center during the golden age of the Gupta dynasty. Eran has a huge Vishnu idol, Varaha idol and Garudastambha built during the Gupta period.
Samudragupta’s Prashati was found in the village of Eran. The original Hindi book was written by Dr. Mohanlal Chadhar and it has been translated into Marathi as Eran Ek Sanskrutik Warsa by Anurag Vaidya.
