Pereslavl – Zalessky
The city owes its birth to Prince Yuri Dolgoruky. He wanted to have his own Pereslavl, there were already two in Russia. He built a fortress on the busy trade route from Kostroma to Vladimir. Vsevolod Bolshoe Gnezdo – Yaroslav's son became his first prince. Pereslavl was not spared the fate of ruin by the Tatar – Mongols. The city experienced its greatest heyday when it was the capital of the principality of Vladimir. Once again, the city was "marked" in history in connection with the construction of Peter 1's "funny" flotilla on Lake Pleshcheyev. Here you can see the oldest examples of Russian architecture. First of all, it is the Transfiguration Cathedral, built in the middle of the 12th century. Sergius of Radonezh was ordained in this cathedral, Alexander Nevsky was baptized – his life was closely connected with this city. Monasteries play a special role in Pereslavl. Nikitsky Monastery is one of the oldest in Russia. It is a whole complex surrounded by a stone wall, with the Nikitsky Cathedral, the churches of the Annunciation and the Archangel Gabriel. Yuriev – Polsky
These two cities are separated by a little more than 60 kilometers. Yuri Dolgoruky is also considered the founder of this city, and also in the middle of the 12th century. Earthen protective ramparts have been preserved to this day, and among them St. George's Cathedral was built of white stone in honor of St. George the Victorious. Yuriev – Polsky was the center of the principality, but in the middle of the 13th century it lost its independence. It was twice ravaged by the Tatars, it was attacked by the Poles during the Time of Troubles, but it was always revived and rebuilt. Everyone who comes here starts with St. George's Cathedral. The walls with figured carvings and unique ornaments have been preserved here since those times. The cathedral is one of the few that have survived from the pre–Mongol period. The Mikhailo – Archangel Monastery is another rarity of Russian architecture. The Theological Gatehouse Church with five chapters, the Church of Archangel Michael, and the Znamenskaya Refectory Church continue to exist on the territory of the monastery. Here, not far from Yuriev, in the house of a friend, Prince P.I. Bagration ended his earthly journey. The day is over, but the impressions remain.
