Chalukya was an important dynasty in India. They ruled over the Deccan plateau in South India. After the fall of the Satavahan and the Vakatak dynasties, the Chalukyas established their power in the south in about the sixth century. These Chalukyas of Badami ruled the region between the Vindhyachal Mountains and the Krishna River, which included Maharashtra in the west and Andhra Pradesh in the east, for about 200 years.
